The Ontario Building Code | Hydraulic Loads on Sanitary Horizontal Drain

7.4.10.8. Hydraulic Loads on sanitary Horizontal Drain

(1) Except as permitted by Article 7.4.10.7., the hydraulic load that is drained to a horizontal sanitary drainage pipeshall conform to Table 7.4.10.8., based on the sizeand slope.

(2) Horizontal sanitary drainage pipe shall be designed to carry no more than 65% of its full capacity.

(1) Slope is the ratio of rise to run, in whatever measurement units are chosen.

In Plain Language

This article sets maximum hydraulic loads for horizontal sanitary drains based on pipe size and slope, since a steeper slope lets a given pipe size carry somewhat more flow.
