  • A contractor or owner-builder may not install an elevator or other elevating device unless it meets the design and manufacturing requirements of the Code or standards referred to in section 4.01, as the case may be.

  • A contractor or owner-builder may not install a lift for persons with physical disabilities unless the prototype has been approved by an engineer who is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, or by the holder of a temporary licence issued under the Engineers Act (chapter I-9), whose professional activities are related to the field of elevators or other elevating devices. The approval must certify that the prototype

    complies with the standards referred to in section 4.01 and that the approval has been sent to the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.

    The type, trademark, model number and features of the approved prototype and the name of the manufacturer shall be entered on the list of the approved prototypes of lifts for persons with physical disabilities that is made public by the Board.
